New Hampshire Department of Education’s Vocational Rehabilitation, Services for Blind and Visually Impaired
Services for Blind and Visually Impaired provides needed services (mostly free) to help people with visual loss to enter, re-enter, or maintain employment.  Rehabilitation services can include: consultation on the Americans with Disabilities Act, job and task analysis; reasonable job accommodation; counseling and guidance; employer services; job placement; low vision; orientation and mobility; personal and household management; skills training; and technology and rehabilitation engineering. Sight services for independent living include adaptive aids and devices, assessment, information, peer support groups, referrals, and skills training.  Also included is the Business Enterprise Program, a federal/state program designed to provide employment opportunities in the food services area for legally blind Vocational Rehabilitation customers.

New Hampshire Department of Education’s Vocational Rehabilitation, Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program

This program administers the telecommunications equipment loaner program, participates in the screening of sign language interpreters and maintains a list and fee schedule of screened and certified interpreters, provides technical assistance to state and private agencies to ensure accessibility for deaf and hard of hearing people, assists in the development of legislation affecting deaf and hard of hearing people in the state as approved by the state board of education, and serves as an information and referral source for the state on the subject of deafness and hearing loss.

New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services’ Bureau of Behavioral Health (BBH)
BBH provides psychiatric emergency and crisis services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to anyone in the state who is experiencing psychiatric distress.  Help in less urgent situations is available through local community mental health centers and local peer support agencies (private not-for-profit agencies that have contracted with BBH).  Several of these agencies offer face-to-face peer support, as well as “Warm Lines,” which provide telephone peer-to-peer support, understanding, sympathy, and advice; routine checks on a person’s well-being; monthly educational events; wellness training; and crisis respite, a 24 hour, short-term, non-medical crisis program.

New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services’ Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services
Treatment services for people who abuse or are addicted to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs are provided through a variety of programs and a tobacco dependence helpline.  Services include outpatient/Intensive outpatient treatment services; residential programs including clinically managed residential detoxification and sobriety maintenance services, clinically managed low/medium/or high intensity residential treatment services, and private treatment facilities.

New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services’ Special Medical Services (SMS)
SMS helps New Hampshire families obtain specialty health care services for their eligible children with physical disabilities, chronic illnesses and special health care needs and health information and support services for themselves; SMS also provides care coordination services, support for child development and neuromotor clinics, nutritional and feeding/swallowing consultation; psychological and physical therapy services, and support for the NH Family Voices and Parent-to-Parent programs.
